Become a closer: audit a commission-only mission before accepting

A closer runs the sales meeting and gets the signature, with prospects who have already shown interest. Many missions are paid on commission only: with no sale paid for, you receive nothing.

Before accepting, check three things: where the prospects come from, what is written about payment, and proof that others have been paid. This guide gives you the full grid.

What does a closer do?

A closer runs the sales conversation through to the decision. The prospect has already shown interest: they filled in a form, replied to a message, were recommended. The closer listens, checks that the offer meets the need, presents the price and gets a yes or a no.

It is not the same work as a referral partner, who gives a contact and stops there. Nor is it cold prospecting, unless the mission asks for it, which completely changes the time involved.

One legal point to keep in mind: a closer presents an offer; they decide neither the price nor the terms, unless the company has given them written authority.

A commission-only mission: what it means

“Commission only” means: no fixed pay. You are paid when a sale goes through, and only then. Four questions decide what you will really receive.

  • The basis: a percentage of what? The price excluding tax, the first year, the margin?
  • The trigger: the signature, or receipt of the client’s payment? Weeks can pass between the two.
  • The deadline: how many days between the trigger and your bank transfer?
  • The clawback: if the client cancels or is refunded, is the commission cancelled, and for how long?

An honest mission answers these four questions before your first call.

How do you audit a closer mission before accepting?

Take this grid and ask for the answers in writing. It works for any mission, ours included.

Point to checkQuestion to askWarning sign
The prospectsWhere do they come from? How many per week? Who qualified them, and how?“You will find your prospects yourself”, when the ad talked about closing.
The offerWhat is sold, to whom, at what price? Can I see the product and a client contract? You cannot see what the client buys.
The written rulesWhere are the rate, the basis, the trigger, the deadline and the clawback?Everything is verbal, or “we will see with the first client”.
Proof of paymentCan I speak to a closer who has already been paid? How do I track my sales? No tracking you can access, no contact possible.
The companyWhat is its legal name, its company number, its address?Only a nickname or a social media account.
Entry feesDo I have to pay anything to get started?Compulsory paid training or access.
Your promises to the clientWhat am I allowed to say, and not to say?You are encouraged to promise results.
The endIf I stop, what happens to the sales in progress?Commissions already earned are lost.

Count your time too: calls, follow-ups, meetings that lead nowhere. A high commission on an offer that does not sell is worth less than a modest commission on an offer that does.

What status for a closer in Switzerland and in France?

A commission-only closer is generally not an employee: they invoice. The rules depend on the country you live in. We only describe Switzerland and France here.

  • In Switzerland: the closest framework is brokerage (Swiss Code of Obligations, Art. 412 et seq.), or the agency contract if you commit on a continuous basis (Art. 418a). For social insurance (OASI, in French AVS), the compensation office decides case by case whether your activity is self-employed, based on the economic facts rather than the contractual status (leaflet 2.02). The details are in the guide Referral partners in Switzerland.
  • In France: the micro-enterprise is the simplest form for invoicing. Mind the boundary with the commercial agent, defined by Service Public Entreprendre as an agent entrusted, on a permanent and independent basis, with negotiating and possibly concluding contracts, and subject to a specific registration. The details are in the guide Referral partners in France.

In both countries, your commissions are income to declare, and your social contributions are your responsibility if you are self-employed.

How closing works at Ryze

Let us run the Ryze My Life program through the same grid, with what is written in the partner terms and on the site.

  • Your role: you present the offer to the prospect yourself with the Ryze My Life application (diagnostic, offer priced by the engine, signature). Prices and commercial terms remain those set by the publisher. You have no authority to bind it.
  • The prospects: the onboarding track talks about your territory and your network, and you are the one who captures the prospect in the application. Neither the site nor the terms mention prospects supplied by the publisher. Ask the question during your application.
  • The commission, in euros and excluding tax: 30% of the client’s first year of subscription on Ryze Systems, Ryze ProBat and PatryaOS, plus 10% of the setup on Ryze Systems (from €800). On Ryze Reno Habitat, €250 per activated partner installer. On Ryze Worlds, reward in kind only. On Ryze Shift, the commission is communicated in writing at onboarding: until it is, no amount is owed. The closer role is closed on Ryze My Life.
  • The trigger: the first payment received from the client. A signature without payment gives no right to anything.
  • The deadline: bank transfer 30 days end of month after receipt of your invoice.
  • The clawback: if the client is refunded within 60 days of their first payment, the commission is cancelled or recovered, in due proportion.
  • Attribution: first-touch rule, 90-day window for the client to sign.
  • Tracking: the site’s onboarding track announces a leaderboard in the application (“Your commissions, your rank, in real time”), and the terms provide that the publisher informs you of each payment received, in the application or in writing.
  • Entry fees: the text of the terms (version 1.0 of 1 October 2026) mentions neither registration fees nor paid training. The only sum you may owe is the recovery of a commission already paid, if the client is refunded. Have this point confirmed in writing.
  • The end: either side can stop at any time in writing. Commissions for which the first payment was received before the end remain owed.
  • Your limits: no promise of results to the client, no spam, independent status, commissions against invoice.

As of October 6, 2026, we found no public history of commissions paid on the site. If this point matters to you, ask for it before committing. The simulator carries the notice “Indicative simulation, not a promise of income”.

The details of the role and the open positions are on the closer mission page. To compare with the other roles, also read the clipping guide.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need paid training to become a closer?

No, no diploma is required to sell. Training can help, but a mission that forces you to buy a course in order to get in should alert you: in that case, you are the customer. Judge a mission on its written rules, not on what it sells you.

How much does a closer earn?

On commission only, there is no salary: you receive nothing until a client has signed and paid. Income depends on the number of real prospects, on your closing rate and on the size of the sales. Nobody can guarantee it in advance.

How do you check that a closer mission really pays?

Ask for the rules in writing: rate, calculation basis, event that triggers payment, deadline, refund cases. Check that the company can be identified and that you can track your sales yourself. Also ask to speak to a closer who has already been paid.

Is commission-only risky?

Yes, the risk is on your side: you put in your time with no guarantee. It can be defended if the prospects really exist, if the offer sells and if the payment rules are clear. Otherwise, decline.

What status does a closer need in Switzerland or in France?

A commission-only closer generally works as an independent and invoices their commissions. In Switzerland, the compensation office decides whether the activity is self-employed. In France, the micro-enterprise is the simplest form, and a closer who negotiates permanently for one company moves closer to a commercial agent.

How is a closer paid at Ryze?

On subscriptions, 30% of the client’s first-year amount excluding tax, paid against an invoice after the client’s first payment. Prices are set by the publisher and calculated by the application, not by the closer.
